Competence grid for part 1
Use this grid to judge whether you have mastered the basics. Read each row and solve the task next to it without looking anything up. If it comes easily, you have reached the goal. If not, the link in the last column takes you to the right place. In the Swiss framework curriculum, part 1 mainly relates to the competences B7.1 (ICT architecture), B9.1 and B9.2 (security concepts and protection needs), A1.5 (legal foundations) and B14.7 (charging for ICT services).
| I can … | Task | Look up |
|---|---|---|
| name and explain the five characteristics of a cloud | Name the five NIST characteristics with one example each from the lab. | Characteristics of a cloud |
| tell a virtualization platform from a cloud | Explain which characteristic is missing on a platform where only the operations team creates VMs. | Characteristics of a cloud |
| explain the service models and shared responsibility | Say for IaaS, PaaS and SaaS who updates the operating system. | Service and deployment models |
| tell the deployment models apart | Explain why Wolkenwerk Bern is a community cloud. | Service and deployment models |
| tell type 1 and type 2 hypervisors apart | Assign KVM, Hyper-V and VirtualBox to a type and say which type data centers usually run. | Virtualization |
| explain how KVM, QEMU and libvirt work together | Describe the path from a command in OpenNebula to a running VM. | Virtualization |
| explain nested virtualization and CPU models | Explain why the nodes need nested virtualization and why host-passthrough makes the language model faster. | Virtualization |
| assign the right jobs to VMs and containers | Name two differences and one example each from the case. | Virtualization |
| say which data protection law applies and what is sensitive | Assign the four members to the FADP or cantonal law and name their sensitive data. | Sovereignty, law and cost |
| explain processing on behalf and the rules for data abroad | Explain what Art. 9 and Art. 16 FADP mean for Wolkenwerk. | Sovereignty, law and cost |
| judge what professional secrecy means for the practice in the cloud | Name the two ways in which the practice can entrust data under professional secrecy to a cloud provider. | Sovereignty, law and cost |
| rate protection needs | Rate the protection need of one member for the three security goals. | Sovereignty, law and cost |
| break down the cost of a cloud | Assign five costs of Wolkenwerk to investments or operating costs and explain showback. | Sovereignty, law and cost |
For part 2 you mainly need the picture of the service models and an understanding of KVM and nested virtualization.
